my submission to the national security enquiry

good day,

I do not support surveillance of the public en-masse.
I do not support surveillance or search without a warrant.
We already have too much unwarranted surveillance.

I read that a person is immune from legal action
in respect of lodging a submission.

So, I would like to state that this proposed legislation causes
in me a strong desire to blow up parliament house,
ala V-for-Vendetta / Guy Fawkes.

We do not need our government to spy on us all the time.
I would rather we had the occassional act of terrorism
than live under an oppressive government.

In fact at the moment we don’t have any terrorism.
If Australia becomes a surveillance state, we will have more terrorism.

Please understand that I am not a terrorist (or vigilante)
and I would not act on my strong desire to blow up parliament house.
However, some other person might do something like that
in response to such corrupt legislation.

In short, the legislation is more likely to cause
acts of violence, than prevent acts of violence.

I am really angry that a proposal for such Orwellian surveillance
is even on the table in this country.

sincerely,

Sam Watkins
